It's Earth Day, and National Volunteer Week, so what better time to celebrate the volunteers who make Seeds of Diversity's programs possible.
To all of you who grow and share seeds, who promote seed diversity at Seedy Saturdays and Seedy Sundays, our youth volunteers, our excellent board of directors, and everyone in communities across Canada who help friends and neighbours learn more about food sustainability, seed biodiversity, and local seed sharing -- thank you for making our programs come alive for so many people!

Celebrating Another Year of Youth Volunteerism
Dozens of youth are coming aboard as Market & Garden Leaders, Media Team members, and Interviewers. Not only are they dedicating their time, care, and energy into the program - and how special it is to have them choose us, among all the opportunities in their worlds - but they are the emerging leaders changing the landscape of how food systems are viewed, and treated, in our communities.
Behind the Scenes at Seeds of Diversity - first of a series
We have about 2500 different kinds of seeds in our Seed Library collection, our helpful home seed savers offer over 3300 varieties through the Seed Exchange, and according to our Seed Finder there are over 10000 varieties of vegetables available from Canadian seed companies. How do we decide which varieties to collect, which seeds to grow out, and when?
Save One Rare Variety!
Here's the easiest and best way to make a real difference as a seed saver. You don't need a lot of experience, a lot of space, or any special tools. Just choose a plant species that you know how to grow, find a variety that's relatively rare, and learn how to grow more of those seeds. If everyone saved just One Rare Variety in their garden, those seeds might not be rare anymore!
