Garlic Bulbils are (Still) Available (Again)!
We are resuming shipping of garlic bulbils, and there's still time to plant them. As long as the soil is soft enough to get them underground, garlic and other bulbs can still be planted.
We have 48 varieties of garlic bulbils to diversify your garden and your meals. Bulbils - not the large bulbs that you're probably used to, but the tiny nuggets that grow in the scapes at the tops of the plants, are a very economical way to collect and grow a vast assortment of garlic varieties!
If you plant bulbils, be prepared to wait for two full years before harvesting fully-grown garlic, but the results should be better than clove-planted garlic, and growing from bulbils makes it possible for us to offer a diverse collection of varieties. While supplies last, we will send you a good amount (at least 10) of bulbils for 5 different varieties for $15 including shipping and handling. Please order at seeds.ca/store.
We cannot guarantee specific varieties, but if you have a favourite, please ask and we'll do our best to provide what you want.

We're especially looking for people who have connections with the wider seed-saving community, experience in administration or governance of non-profit organizations, and availability for a one-hour virtual meeting each month.

Seed Libraries Across Canada, Part 13
In our September 2022 Seed Libraries article, we mentioned that as of 2015, it was estimated there were at least 50 Seed Libraries in Canada; and we suspected that number must have risen in the years since. Well, in the three years since writing that, I have come to the conclusion that we were definitely right in thinking that number had grown. Each time I begin my research for one of these articles, I am blown away by the sheer number of Seed Libraries sprinkled across the country. The more I look and reach out to folks in the seedy community, the more that pop up. If each Library were a star, Canada would look like a clear night sky.

Youth in Food Systems - Summer Recap
As many of you reading this know, our youth program, Youth in Food Systems (YFS), operates provincially, engaging youth across Ontario in food systems learning and exploration. We also have projects that run exclusively in Waterloo Region, where our office and staff members are located.
The end of summer is a bittersweet time; saying goodbye to the incredible summer staff and the dozens of youth that made this summer truly magical. At the same time, we are PROUD of all that our team has achieved. Our youth Market Leaders and Garden Leaders created thriving community spaces for food production and distribution, all while building relationships, skills, and hopefully having a ton of fun!
